The Cabin: September Powerful Pint Partner

We are so excited that The Cabin is our Powerful Pint partner for September!

Meet The Cabin

The Cabin is a literary arts nonprofit organization in Boise, Idaho. We forge community through the voices of all readers, writers, and learners. Their workshops, readings, lectures, camps, and other literary programs provoke creativity and experimentation, foster literary excellence, and inspire a love of reading and writing in children and adults alike across the Treasure Valley and beyond.

Mission

The Cabin is the first—and only—center for readers and writers in the heart of Southwest Idaho. The Cabin serves as an anchor of literary arts in our state, serving as the only nonprofit organization in Idaho devoted entirely to arts and educational activities that celebrate reading and writing. Workshops, lectures, readings, camps, publications, and other programs fulfill their vision to incubate experiences that promote the power of literature.

Programs at the Cabin

The Cabin offers many different programs for authors and artists to share stories, imagination, and magic as they help to create the conditions that allow people to reimagine

Reading and Conversation

A Readings & Conversations lecture is typically an original talk by the author on the subject of their choice. It can be about their current book, upcoming projects, past works, relevant cultural issues, and more. The talk runs for about an hour and is followed by a 20ish minute Q&A from the audience, moderated by Kurt, The Cabin’s Executive Director.

Writers in the Schools

We believe better writers make better students. Our Writers in the Schools (WITS) program is designed to foster creativity, communication, and self-discovery. Working in 3rd–12th grade classrooms and juvenile detention centers throughout the Treasure Valley, The Cabin’s professional teaching-writers—poets, novelists, playwrights, and journalists—lead creative writing, reading, and discussion projects.

The result? Schools that have participated in our WITS program report measurable improvements in student reading and writing skills, as well as positive experiences that encourage creative thought and expression.

Summer Writing Camps

The Cabin’s Summer Writing Camps help kids cultivate a lifelong love of writing through fun, week-long literary adventures. Campers explore community spaces like the Idaho Botanical Garden, Birds of Prey, and The Cabin as they build tools to creatively express themselves.

Events with the cabin

There’s always something going on at The Cabin. From workshops to readings to camps to calls for submissions to our annual Writers in the Attic publication, we have a little something for everyone who loves to read, write, and explore.
